NEVER STOP EXPLORING. A year ago today I set off on an epic quest to fulfil my lifelong dream to go (long-term) travelling. It’s the best thing I’ve ever done and I cannot believe how much better I am (and my life is) for having done it.

I learnt so much about life and about myself during this trip, it’s changed the way I want to live the next decades of my life.

Sicily Dec 2022

Longing for days filled with brilliant sunshine, walks along coastal paths and breathtaking sea views ❤️

Sicily was a pleasant surprise - the history, the architecture, the delicious food…and that Sicilian is really quite different from Italian so my basic French/Spanish was no help at all! 😂

I loved that I could get some winter sun only a couple of hours away from the U.K, and enjoy this beautiful island outside peak tourist season.

Counting down to my next trip, which is in 3 weeks! Any guesses where? 😄

The Emerald Isle in black and white 🖤🤍🖤

My trip to the island of Ireland (both countries), Feb 2023, gave me numerous opportunities to practice black and white photography. There is something about those moody skies that I love ❤️ I think the most successful pictures are those of the Giant’s Causeway, which was also my favourite spot. I would love to go back to Ireland…when sunshine and blue skies are guaranteed! 😄

Country No. 56- Northern Island! 🇬🇧

I have finally visited all the countries in the U.K. 🥳 It was a no-brainer (once it was pointed out to me 😋😄), considering Belfast is only a couple of hours from Dublin. However my final destination had to be the majestic Giant’s Causeway ❤️

A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the interlocking basalt columns were formed over 60million years ago, following a volcanic fissure eruption.

Being the U.K, in winter, you would not be surprised to hear that the weather was less than ideal, nevertheless I chose to embrace the drama of the grey, overcast day and I’m grateful it was raining! 😂

I will forever be grateful for the life I lived this year. I got the opportunity to fulfil my life long dream to go (long-term) travelling.

It was more than I could have imagined. I met the most wonderful people, experienced many adventures, tried new cuisines, learnt a new language and developed a philosophy for my life that I look forward to practicing in 2023.

This is for my foodies ❤️❤️

We happened to stumble upon this snack, while walking around the centre of Luxembourg City. 2 guys on a side street casually frying dough balls and coating them in cinnamon sugar.

They’re called ‘Quarkbällchen’ - a type of German doughnut, made of ‘quark’ cheese. I wanted to try them cos they reminded me of ‘puff puff’ but they taste like a lemony cheesecake! So unexpected but really delicious!!!

Paris: A study in Black and White 🖤🤍🖤

There are only two cities outside of the U.K. that I’ve been to many times over - New York and Paris. There’s something really lovely about not needing to have an itinerary or a must-see list, and just enjoy wandering around the city.

That being said, all roads do tend to lead to well-known landmarks 😄and I’ve loved getting to make memories in monochrome.

As a self-confessed non-lover of beach holidays, I was pleasantly surprised that some of my favourite last days in Sri Lanka were spent exploring the beaches, and beach towns, along the South Coast of country.

I won’t be going back any time soon (possibly ever! 🙈😄)…but it’s good to have some nice memories of the trip

Spotlight: The Royal Botanic Gardens - My favourite place in Kandy 😍

Set in 60 hectares, with over 4000 plant species in cultivation, featuring a lake, orchid garden, spice garden, multiple palm avenues and much more, this was a truly beautiful setting to spend an afternoon.

And in fact, I wish I’d spent the whole day. I couldn’t recommend it more.

Sigiriya Rock. I particularly loved the view of

Sigiriya Rock.

I particularly loved the view of this rock, from Pidurangala (that famous sunrise hike) It made me feel like I was in a prehistoric movie. I could practically picture dinosaurs roaming around me! 😄

Prior to my visit, I thought Sigiriya (Lion) Rock was just a rock but it was an ancient fortress.

It was the seat of administration for King Kasyapa for 18 years (AD 477-495). There was a palace at the top of the rock and the grounds were beautifully laid, with a number of water gardens, ponds, terraced gardens, an inner and outer moat etc. A fantastic example of ancient urban planning. It is said to have been modelled on a mythical kingdom. It was converted to a Buddhist monastery after his death, and used up until the 12th and 13th centuries.

I wish I had spent all day exploring both the rock and the grounds. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and definitely worth a visit if you like history, architecture and beautiful landscapes.

I’m not sure about posting this video… I’m doing it in the moment, so may delete it when I’m feeling less het up 😤

I’m so upset about being harassed by two guys (not the guy in the video)…and just really fed up of a certain level of discomfort that I have been experiencing over the last few days in Sri Lanka.

This is in no way a reflection of the Sri Lankan people - I’ve met some really lovely, friendly and wonderful people but I’ve had it up to here with the constant staring and rubbernecking when I’m out and about, minding my business. It’s happening every minute of every day, and it’s exhausting ignoring it/pretending it isn’t happening.

I’ve gotten stares on other trips and I’ve usually just shrugged it off but for some reason this feels so much worse. I hadn’t realised it was affecting me, until I found myself wondering if there were things about myself I could change (my hairstyle for e.g) that would reduce the number of stares I receive. I mean, that’s crazy.

I know people are curious and a lot of people have walked up to me and asked questions - where am I from, is this really my hair etc…but even that gets annoying when you’re answering the same questions 10-15 times a day! (That’s no exaggeration)

I’m not letting it spoil my trip but I’m also not sure if ignoring it is the best way forward.

Has anyone else had this experience? How did you deal with it?

On a positive note, hopefully the next black woman who makes this trip will have a slightly more comfortable experience! 🤞🏽

Playing with light, shadows and colour at the Roya

Playing with light, shadows and colour at the Royal Opera House, Muscat.

Most pictures of this blindingly white building play up on the lightness and airiness of the building so I’ve enjoyed the turning it on its head, and going for a moody picture.

I love this picture so much! It doesn’t fit into my preferred setting for photography (think blue skies, sunshine and lots of light) but it’s made me curious to experiment with black and white photography.
